The Bennelong Australian Equities Fund and the Bennelong Concentrated Australian Equities Fund have both been reinstated with a ‘highly recommended' rating by Zenith Investment Partners (Zenith) for the fourth year in a row.
Bennelong Australian Equity Partners (BAEP) is a boutique fund manager, established in 2008 as a joint venture between Bennelong Funds Management (Bennelong) and Mark East and Paul Cuddy. Despite Paul’s announcement earlier this year that he will be retiring in late August 2015, Zenith believes the departure of Cuddy should not significantly impact the investment capabilities of BAEP. While Zenith notes Cuddy has been instrumental in all aspects of the business since it was founded, due to his responsibilities more recently centring around client and business management, the Funds themselves will not be directly affected.
The Funds expect to achieve their return objective by focusing on quality companies that exhibit mispriced earnings growth while employing stringent bottom-up, fundamental analysis of stocks with a quantitative and macroeconomic overlay.
Zenith believes both Funds are appealing offerings owing the strong investment team and performance-driven culture. Zenith regards Mark as a highly competent investor, stating ‘the BAEP investment team is well led by East who has over 24 years of experience’. As Chief Investment Officer, Mark is responsible for the day-to-day management of all stock, research and portfolio related matters. Apart from Mark, the team includes six investment professionals, including a Director of Quantitative Research, three fundamental analysts, a macroeconomic strategist and newcomer Julian Beaumont as Investment Director.
