Zenith renews 'highly recommended' for two Bennelong Funds

8 July 2013

The Bennelong ex-20 Australian Equities Fund and the Bennelong Concentrated Australian Equities Fund have again been awarded a ‘highly recommended' rating by Zenith Investment Partners (Zenith), reaffirming the Funds' previously awarded ratings.

The ex-20 Fund provides investors with access to a unique Australian equities portfolio that invests in companies outside the top 20 ASX listed stocks. The Concentrated Fund primarily selects stocks from the S&P/ASX 300 Index and typically holds approximately 25 stocks.

The Funds are managed by Bennelong Australian Equity Partners (BAEP), established in July 2008 in partnership with Bennelong Funds Management. BAEP currently manages $3.9 million.

Experienced investment team

Headed by Paul Cuddy and Mark East, the team consists of seven investment professionals including a Director of Quantitative Research, three fundamental analysts and a macroeconomic strategist.

Zenith Investment Analyst, Scott Lin, said the recent addition of Neale Goldston-Morris in March 2013 has bolstered the team’s headcount. “Charged with providing macroeconomic insights, Neale brings over three decades of experience in stock research, investment strategy and portfolio design”, said Scott.

According to Zenith, the team is well incentivised, experienced and enjoy a collegiate environment owing to the fact that they have either worked together at ING or enjoyed a longstanding industry relationship.

Robust and well-structured research process

BAEP employs a bottom-up active research process, supported by “a highly impressive array of proprietary quantitative techniques that rival those of any other manager in the market,” according to the report. Scott said this is a logical and theoretically proven method of generating outperformance, which should enable BAEP to achieve its investment objectives.

Zenith considers the Concentrated Fund’s performance record to be exceptional, stating that both Funds’ performance records “highlight the strength and rigour of the investment process applied”.
