Research house Zenith Investment Partners (Zenith) has awarded a ‘Highly recommended’ rating to the Bennelong Australian Equities Fund – the fund’s first Zenith rating, as part of its 2014 Australian Large Companies Sector Review. Zenith also renewed the ‘Highly recommended’ rating of the Bennelong ex-20 Australian Equities Fund and Bennelong Concentrated Australian Equities Fund.
All three funds are managed by Bennelong Australian Equity Partners (BAEP), which was founded in 2008 by Paul Cuddy and Mark East, in partnership with Bennelong Funds Management. Zenith believes the joint venture arrangement is extremely robust with the back-office support allowing the BAEP team to focus purely on investment duties.
Highly impressive tools and experienced team
As part of its review, Zenith noted: “The BAEP portfolio construction process is sound, utilising both East’s considerable portfolio management experience and industry-leading quantitative tools. Zenith regards both Cuddy and East as highly competent investors and is encouraged by their collaborative approach.”
Zenith noted the funds offer a unique opportunity to diversify a portfolio, with each report stating the funds “exhibit less correlation to other large cap managers throughout different stages in the investment cycle.” All three funds have enjoyed strong outperformance.
Chief Executive Officer Paul Cuddy said: “BAEP’s investment style considers quality, growth and value. Our portfolios hold high quality companies that can deliver positive earnings surprise, at reasonable valuations, and it is pleasing to see Zenith’s commendation of the research and investment process we have in place.”
